Support for Practices:

Primary Care Careers Offer

The BLMK Training Hub works closely with Primary Care Careers to provide attraction and recruitment support to all practices and Primary Care Networks across BLMK. The offer is fully funded and includes:

  • Access to the Primary Care Careers job site where you can advertise your roles at no cost. If you advertise through the Primary Care Careers site your advert will also automatically be posted onto other job sites such as NHS Jobs and Indeed however, all applications will come through to one place reducing the amount of time you need to spend on logging into different systems and collating applications
  • Advert writing support: the team can provide you with advice around advert writing to help you to shape an advert that will attract the right candidates for the role. We have worked closely with the Primary Care Careers team to craft helpful advert templates which include details of support that the Training Hub provides including learning and development which can be included in your advert to help attract candidates to your role
  • 1:1 Consultations: the team are more than happy to have a 1:1 consultation with you to help understand your recruitment needs and challenges and to work with you to put together a plan to fill your vacancies
  • Advertising: the Primary Care Careers team regularly post on Linkedin and have a large following which allows for wider advertising of roles. We would also suggest that, if you’re recruiting, you consider setting up your own social media to help attract candidates to your organisation

Top Tips for Recruitment:

  • Social Media: recruitment has changed much over the last few years and with the rise of social media, many more applicants are turning to sites such as Facebook, Instagram or Linkedin to hear about roles and to find out about the organisation they’re applying for. A well-maintained Facebook, Instagram or Linkedin page showing who you are as an employer and what it’s like to work for you can greatly increase your chances of attracting candidates to work for your organisation. If you’d like to find out more about using social media in primary care, you can read this NHS England article.
  • Tier 2 Sponsorship: becoming a Tier 2 Sponsor allows you to recruit candidates from outside the UK including those from the EU. By being a Tier 2 Sponsor you will increase your pool of potential applicants. You can find our more about how to become a sponsor on the gov.uk site here. Please note that the BLMK ICB does not offer funding to support you to become a sponsor, the cost of this will need to be paid by the practice or PCN.
  • Writing your advert: writing a compelling advert is a very important part of the recruitment process. We’ve put together some top tips as well as advert templates that you can access by signing up to our MS Teams SharePoint site which you can do through our Keeping in Touch page. Once you’ve signed up, you can access these resources here.
  • Retention starts at recruitment: having a robust plan around induction, onboarding, learning and development, mentoring, supervision and support for new recruits will help to increase your chances of retaining them. You can find out more about these areas through following the links in the how we can support you section of our site.
