As an HCSW, your role will be dynamic and diverse.
The role can be busy, and your duties will vary, but you’ll always be at the core of healthcare, helping patients and their families during a vulnerable time in their lives.
Your daily duties may involve amongst other things:
- assisting patients with daily tasks like eating, washing, showering, and dressing
- preparing patients for tests
- making beds
- documenting tasks as you carry them out
- conducting patient observations such as checking blood pressure, pulse, and temperature
- monitoring blood glucose levels
- transferring patients to other departments
- assisting with discharges
- assisting with new admissions
- supporting patients and their families as needed.
All of this gives support to patients and families when they need it.
