Funded offer for Educators and new Learning Organisations

The BLMK ICB Primary Care Training Hub is pleased to be able to offer a funded route to new GP Educators or Learning Organisations (Training Practices) to train and gain approval. There are only a limited number of spaces available and the deadline for applying with the Training Hub is 31 July 2024.

Applications will be reviewed, and places given based on current demand for expansion.

We would encourage new GP Educators to consider training to Tier 3 level as we can facilitate an introductory first 6 months or first placement working at a Tier 2 level to help you gain confidence if required.

Funding

New Tier 2 GP Educators

The Training Hub £1,000 to complete the training programme. There will be a requirement for the GPs to complete the Aspiring Educators Training Workbook element of the training prior to the face-to-face training sessions. More information on the contents of the Workbook can be found on page 5 of this document.

New Tier 3 GP Educators

The Training Hub will £2,000 to complete the training programme. There will be a requirement for the GPs to complete the Aspiring Educators Training Workbook element of the training prior to the face-to-face training sessions. More information on the contents of the Workbook can be found on page 5 of this document.

Upskilling from Tier 2b to Tier 3

Following the change to the training program, the extent to which you will need to participate in the new program to upskill depends on when you completed the Educators Tier 2b training. As a general guideline, if you became approved in 2022 or later, you would need to complete Day 2 of the face-to-face training. If you were approved in 2021 or earlier, you will need to complete both Day 1 and Day 2 of the face-to-face training. Participants will receive £1,000 in funding for completing one day of training and £2,000 for completing both days.

New Learning Organisations (Training Practices)

The Training Hub will fund £500 to each new Learning Organisation to cover approximately 10 hours of Practice / Placement Manager time to work on the approval and work with an established Learning Organisation (Training Practice) to gain support and advice.

The Training Hub will also fund a reciprocal £500 to each established Learning Organisation to cover approximately 10 hours of Practice / Placement Manager time to support the new Learning Organisation prepare for approval, upon provision of invoice and a written report on what support was / will be offered to the new Learning Organisation.

Training requirements

The training process in the East of England has recently changed and is now undertaken by working through the Aspiring Educators Training Workbook sections first, then attending the following:

Tier 2b

One virtual half day session (on 15 October 2024) and one and a half days face-to-face training sessions (on 20 November 2024 and 27 November 2024).

To be eligible to train as a Tier 2b educator, you need to be at least 1 year post CCT if employed in an existing learning organisation, or 2 years post CCT if your organisation isn’t yet approved.

Tier 3

One virtual half day session (on 15 October 2024) and two face-to-face full day training sessions (on 20 November 2024 and 27 November 2024

To be eligible to train as a Tier 3 educator, you need to be at least 2 years post CCT if employed in an existing learning organisation, or 3 years post CCT if your organisation isn’t yet approved.

There are some commitments attached to receiving these funded offers and they are set out on page 7 of this document. Applications from locums will be considered however there may be regularity requirements and additional commitments from your practice. We will discuss these on an individual basis.
