Volunteers in all adult health care settings
This session aligns to the Volunteer Certificate Standard 3 – Respect for everyone (equality, diversity and inclusion).
This session has been designed to give you an awareness of the subject Equality, Diversity and Human Rights. It is important to remember that, as a volunteer, it is not your role to deal directly with equality and diversity issues. It is, however, your duty to know when and how to report any potential concerns.
If you are unsure about your role, or have any questions or difficulty understanding the content of this session, please contact your volunteer coordinator for support.
You can revisit this session as many times as you need to. Your volunteer coordinator will also be able to help you if you need any technical support.
Aim of this session is to:
- Explain what we mean by equality, diversity, human rights and person-centred support and why they are important
- Explain why we need to know about people’s different backgrounds and why it is important not to make assumptions about individuals
- Describe what you can do to challenge prejudice and discrimination
