BLMK Social Work Teaching Partnership

What is a Teaching Partnership?

The Department for Education introduced Teaching Partnerships to help improve the overall quality of practice, learning and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) amongst student and practicing social workers.

Teaching Partnerships have been created to develop and support high standards of work and education by building stronger links between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and employers (Local Authorities).

The BLMK Teaching Partnership brings together Central Bedfordshire Council, Bedford Borough, Luton Borough, Milton Keynes, University of Bedfordshire, ELFT and partners from the private, voluntary, and independent sectors (PVI). The Teaching Partnership supports social work students and existing social workers across the BLMK area.

Our aims are to:

  • Improve recruitment, selection and education of student social workers
  • Ensure newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) are employment ready for employment, with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to a more stable and resilient workforce.
  • Develop enhanced and formalised opportunities for academics and practitioners to work together
  • Improve retention of social workers within the BLMK Teaching Partnership.
