Advanced Clinical Practitioner

NHSE and the Centre for Advancing Practice are currently working to standardise the competencies required at Advanced Practitioner level.

To enable recognition as an Advanced Practitioner, an individual needs to be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill against all 4 pillars of Advanced Clinical Practice, further information on the pillars can be found here

There are specific requirements set out in the DES for Advanced Practice roles being funded and for some professions these directly relate to these changes.

We have developed an information sheet to help understand these changes and how it might affect you as a clinician or as a practice (and support available) which can be found here AP – Information Sheet Nov 23

The NHSE Advanced Practice Faculty have launched a new webpage to support clinicians, practices and supervisors understand the requirements for supervision of Advanced and Trainee Advanced Practitioners Advanced Practice Supervisor Capabilities – Advanced Practice (
